Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Fan Atmosphere Following Emphatic Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his sadness that the England team did not receive stronger encouragement from the Wembley spectators during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his squad continue their good form, with strikes from Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the first 20 minutes effectively ending the game. But, he was displeased with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had limited training days to prepare against a well-trained team and we excelled,” the coach remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the additional goals. There was little noise. We didn’t get any energy from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the team earned better encouragement today.”
“I stand by my words. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a bit more backing in phases where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It might have aided us to recharge, but that’s the way it went and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Apart from risking a dispute among fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by leaving out Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the choice was justified by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and scoring his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” the head coach noted. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his spot.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Loss
Craig Bellamy hopes that Wales, who host a strong Belgian side in a important World Cup qualifier on next week, learn from their awful first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” the manager commented. “I need to see our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance fills me with motivation.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at the break after hitting a post and is a concern when England play their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
