Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found plenty of entertaining independent titles. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a hero that is truly a turd attempting to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, you'll face tough enemies and access a shop to purchase skins for your poop character.

Time your actions precisely, as a wrong move requires beginning again. Leap on air pockets to launch the poop higher, navigate crumbling surfaces, and interact with switches to open new areas. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase challenging levels where things intensifies.

Graphically, the game features eye-catching stages and a killer soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style with moving abstract forms evokes memories of gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though tough to recall other games where you control a dung character, video games have long featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can craft grenades from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already garnered significant accolades, like winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release set to launch on PC in the fall.
